Hi there, this is Bridget MacKay at MacKay Dressler Law Firm, and I want to talk to you about the ideal gift for Valentine’s Day, which is coming up.
Now, you may not think in your mind, you know, estate planning would be the ideal gift for a Valentine of yours. I know it’s usually dinners out, flowers, a nice card, a good time together, which you should all do as well. But really, I think the strongest thing that says you love someone is to have your estate plan in order. I know that sounds dry, but I can tell you after 20 years of doing this, families are so grateful and feel so much love from their loved one when they have everything put together.
They have a Trust that covers all of the assets and where they’re going to go and who’s going to handle it. They have a health care directive so that if there’s a health emergency, they know who is going to be making decisions and who is responsible. And it just makes everything go more smoothly.
So, I want to put another twist on that day of love that goes beyond the Hallmark card, lasts longer than the dead flowers, and provides a more lasting feeling inside the hearts of your loved ones, and that’s an estate plan.
Because if you want to protect your family, this is what you should do if you love them.
